The art of Ghazal singing is as old as the genre itself.
Ghazal, having been the turf of the greatest of poets around the world, is a genre where words come together in their most intense forms. When washed by the waves of music, its fabrics unfurl to give life to an ethereal symphony.
Our subcontinent has been the abode of the greatest of Ghazal singers, rewarded by an equally tasteful audience. Earlier, there was a culture of exchange between poets and musicians where the expertise of both came together to create masterpieces that immortalized the artists. Over the decades, this tradition has seen a decline due to the lack of adequate opportunities and an ecosystem to support its evolution. Having developed an extensive repository of Urdu poets around the world, Rekhta Foundation now envisions creating a similar community for Ghazal singers.
Ghazal-Sara, (literally meaning someone who performs a Ghazal) is a journey to discover the voices of all the singers who solemnly practise this art form. Rekhta extends this opportunity to all the Ghazal singers to become a part of Jashn e Rekhta.
